What is fITRA?
fITRA stands for fun Islamic Teaching, Reading and Activities. It is also an Arabic word meaning innate God-consciousness and childhood innocence. What is the aim of fITRA? fITRA aims to provide outward-looking Islamic Education in Woking, Surrey for local children, ensuring the children develop a happy and confident British Muslim identity. External visitors have included people from Fairtrade and the NSPCC. The 85 children who attend seem to really enjoy it- and some mothers tell us of their children actually clamouring to be brought to fITRA! fITRA also aims to help local schools in their teaching of Islam, providing materials for classroom work and assemblies, and occasional talks.
